Aww We Laughed So Hard

Last night I was cleaning out old emails and found so many between my sister Jilly and I. It’s hard to believe she’s now been gone 2 years. When I think of things we did or talked about, it seems like it was just last week. I ran across an email after our road trip to Mississippi to meet a fellow quilter, Judi.

On the drive there I was reading us weird internet stuff and stumbled across an article on how college girls are soaking their tampons in vodka then putting them in their wooha so they get the alcohol absorbed but don’t smell like they had been drinking. As we pondered this we kept laughing at how stupid this was, did it really work? You know because minds like mine and Jilly always want to know.

After reading the whole article I said well next thing you know men will be putting Jack Daniels up their butt to get drunk and not smell like they’ve been drinking. You know like a coffee colonic. After laughing terribly we started to wonder if that would actually get you drunk and well, you know I had to google it. I am not kidding when I say I was laughing so hard I couldn’t even tell her what I found. Imagine my surprise when I found it’s not just a thing but they actually have a name for it. Butt chugging. Yes you read that right.

Ok at this point I thought her husband was going to have to pull off the road on some lonely back road in Alabama. We literally, I kid you not, had tears running down our faces from laughing so hard. We got to discussing it was one thing to actually put Jack Daniels up your butt but you have to ask, who’s the first idiot that thought of this? I said to Jilly, this means someone was standing around, whiskey bottle in hand and said hmmm wonder if I can put this up my butt and get drunk. I admitted, ok I have been drunk beyond remembering the night, but I don’t think I’ve ever been that drunk. This resulted in again laughing so hard we couldn’t talk but I will say I thought she’d laugh herself sick when I said here’s the big question.

Do you put it up your own butt or ask a friend hey can you squirt this bourbon up my butt hole. And did he say yes? I have never laughed so hard in my entire life and I am not sure I ever will again. Lord I miss that woman. I think she was the only person I ever felt I could be 100% me and she still loved me and never thought about judging me.

I wish she could be here now when I think of the follow up questions on that like – If you’re one of those people that walk around with your head up your butt, will your breath still smell like alcohol? Will police every think to smell your butt for alcohol? Oh Jilly I miss you.

PS – maybe later today I’ll tell you about how she used to tuck me in bed.

So What Else Is New?

Last post for the day. I’m entering a new phase of life. Last month I was diagnosed with dystolic heart failure and then kidney disease. It has been a bit of a journey getting a doctor that would talk to you and hopefully after some more test this month, I will know more. Kinda makes you regret giving up alcohol and cigarettes because now I have to give up salt and caffeine.

My friend Claudia brought me some fresh made taco shells with no sodium. I may be eating every meal on a taco or lettuce wrap. Quite tasty. And OMG salt is in nearly everything.

You Can’t Say No To A Gift

Well, I guess you can but I’d be offended. LOL. Anyway, I gave me dear friend Claudia a king size quilt I’d made. If you scroll back I used the fabric in it on 3 quilts and swore I was keeping each as I absolutely loved it. However, after making the 3rd one it was so big I realized washing it weekly was a pain if the dogs slept on the bed so I sent it to live with Claudia. I gave Brenda a pretty poinsettia quilt.

I wanted to gift Pam and Marilyn one also but of course they said no, you don’t have to do that. Well too bad, they both had birthdays that hadn’t passed yet so I gave them as gifts so they couldn’t refuse to take them. I love how they came out.

This is Marilyn’s. Oh I wish the picture showed as nicely as the quilt. I loved it. It’s a 4 patch posey but I combined 2 colorways of the same fabric instead of just one color. And of course, everything is better with polka dots.

This one is Pam’s and I expected to dislike it. I am not a pink person at all and this is PINK. She adores pink. When I got done I couldn’t stop thinking how much i loved it. While I dislike making half square triangles, I am pretty sure there is another one of these in my future. The background looks black but it’s a beautiful orchid color. I hope all 4 enjoy their quilts.

Three That Needed Their Own Post

These 3 were kind of special to me. The first one is made using a fabric printed with West Virginia all over it. It was designed for a West Virginia shop hop. It’s the last fabric my sister and I bought together before she passed away. I so glad I made a last minute decision to go up for her birthday. This quilt will remain with me. When I’m gone hopefully someone loves it.

The next one is special based on how long it took. The ladies in my local group decided to make a Women of The Bible quilt. The pattern is made using 40 blocks that each represent a woman in the bible. After that you still had to make 30 or more setting blocks to put it all together. We decided to make 2 blocks a month so this is a 2 year project. I gifted it to a friend of my friend Marilyn. She saw it before it was finished and loved the colors.

The next is my Spain quilt. Our wonderful friend Pam went to Spain, Italy, etc. Oh the effort that poor woman made running around trying to find fabric stores. If you knew the story you’d know how much we each appreciate our quilts. She brought each of us a piece of fabric and we all made the same pattern in different colors. I love it.

Well, Might As Well Add The 2023 Quilts

I think I have a few more but they need to be basted and then find time to quilt them. My long arm sure is getting a run for it’s money. These are ones I made in 2023.

Once more stack n whack. If you read my blog long enough you’ll see that I might be addicted to making these. This was a prayer quilt for a friend of a friend suffering from shingles for months. That poor thing.

One more one block wonder made using a Kaufman vintage print. Toes included. LOL another prayer quilt.

Another stack n whack using Tula Pink. This one is in the prayer quilt pile but hasn’t found a home yet.

This one has no name. I made up the design myself. Made or my bosses grandbaby. Drew Elizabeth born in August 2024.

A bargello pattern called Frequency done in beach colors batiks. This one went off a s a prayer quilt this week also.

Surprise, surprise. Another stack n whack. This one uses Kaffe Fasset special colorway that came out in 2023 for a limited time. It was a prayer quilt as well.

Last one in this post. Pattern is called Jewel Box and it’s a Christmas gift for my dog groomer.

At This Point

At this point you’re probably wondering, does she do anything but quilt? Well, not really. I have work, house cleaning, dogs and a cat to take care of. One hobby is all I have time for. My wonderful local ladies are quilting away but I will need to ask permission before I post their quilts.

So how about some fun dog pictures. Cause you know I always have them. Here are my boys. Now if the cat will just sit long enough to get a picture.

It’s Been A Year

Wow I simply can’t believe I forgot about my blog. I started it to track the progress of my quilt classes in Brandon a very long time ago. Back then it was called something else. Then I used it to keep it so my sister Jilly and I could keep up to date on events, quilts, news, etc. With her gone and no one to read, it just didn’t seem that important. But I guess I should update it. Who knows when I’m gone someone may run across it that is interested in reading all the nonsense.

So quilt wise – wow I have probably made a few but no sense it having 20 different posts so I’ll kind of lump things together. Here are the ones I made after the last post here in October 2022. If you’re interested in any info on them I’ll post under each picture.

This is my second God’s Eye quilt. This one was donated to a friends Sunday school class. They raffled it to raise money for a missions team to build a house for a family in the DR.

This pattern is called Courtship. If you look close it’s all sewing related fabrics. I donated it as a door prize for the ladies luncheon at Shiloh Baptist.

These 2 went to my good friend Kenetha. The first is a one block wonder using a flamingo print and the second is a stack n whack using a fabric line called monkey wrench. I adore monkeys.

This is my one block wonder using Michael Miller poinsettia. I gifted it to my sweet friend Brenda.

This is another stack n whack using a tiger lily fabric and the 2nd is a bargello called Gelato. Both were donated as prayer quilts.

This to date is one of my favorite quilts. It’s nothing but some black batik and leftover KF prints from the scrap drawer but I absolutely love how it came out. I didn’t love cutting over 2000 pieces lol. I am donating this one again to my dear friend Marilyn’s Sunday class in case they need another raffle.

i think this wraps up 2022 of what wasn’t posted prior. This is Joseph’s Coat using 30 different fabrics. So far it has stayed with me but who knows. One day it may find a home.

Stay Tuned

I told my hairdresser about air frying boiled eggs for breakfast when I get to work and now I will be teaching how to cook in the air fryer. Stay tuned for updates. I love him cause he’s so dramatic and this should be a hoot. Last night after numerous texts and calls, he did make himself an awesome steak for dinner in the air fryer. While it’s not a grill, it’s much easier after a long day especially if it’s just for one person.

The Great Fire of 2022

I say that in jest and thank the Lord is was something minor. I had Claudia and Marie over and was sewing while making dinner. We are sewing away when every smoke alarm in my house went off. I had put a potato in the microwave for Shannon, and I guess the microwave must have shorted out. It not only burnt the plate but the potato was on fire and the microwave full of flames.

You like to think you react quickly but all I could think of was call my son in law. Thankfully Marie put out the microwave while the amazing Claudia took the flaming potato outside. I am so thankful she didn’t burn herself. They even helped clean up the mess and even stayed for dinner after all that. Oh and no, we didn’t have that potato for dinner.

Here’s a comparison to a regular potato. Remember that old commercial, this is your brain and this is your brain on drugs.

Kevin’s Retirement

I have never figured out how my boss and her husband met as they are complete opposites. She is your typical straight laced CPA and her husband, who is an amazing math teach, is a complete hippy. He travels every summer to music festivals all over the country in his motorhome. I think he owns about 400 tie dyed shirts and a slew of birkenstock sandals.

He finally retired after 20 plus years as a school teacher so what better retirement gift than a hippy quilt. He was so excited when Terri took it home because it matches his Grateful Dead poster perfectly. He keeps it on the bed in his music room where he listens to albums in the evening. I’m glad he loves it. I had been wanting to make that one for quite a while.
